Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, profoundly impacted education, including English language teaching and learning. English teachers faced extraordinary challenges and were compelled to rethink every aspect of the educational process. They found the courage to continue teaching and adapting to a harsh new reality, bearing the psychological effects of the aggression. Learning and using English became crucial in amplifying the voices witnessing the devastating and unjust war and countering Russian propaganda. This volume explores the experiences of Ukrainian and non-Ukrainian (Floridian) educators who taught English during the first year of the invasion at colleges and schools in Ukraine and online from outside Ukraine. It covers a wide range of topics, from adapting to a rapidly changing reality that demands courage and fosters resilience, to prioritizing the safety and well-being of students above all academic concerns, and maintaining professional responsibilities against all odds. Despite numerous challenges, the voices of the faculty in this volume emphatically convey that the future of Ukraine centers on education, and these educators are keenly aware of their mission. |
