SSTESOL Mini-Grant Awards

Purpose: To provide financial support for teachers, paraprofessionals, or graduate students seeking funds for innovative language development learning projects.

Who’s Eligible: Any of the above pre-service or in-service professionals
  • who have not been awarded a SSTESOL mini-grant in the past two years.


Award: $250 (4 awards will be given this year)

Guidelines & Criteria: You must be a member of Sunshine State TESOL. (If you are not a current member, sign up here.)

Only complete applications submitted by deadline above will be considered.
  • Recipients must participate in at least four sessions in the virtual conference.
  • Recipients must provide a post-conference write-up of 200-300 words regarding their conference experience no later than two weeks post-conference. This document should include summaries of sessions attended, new ideas learned from the conference, and/or personal reflections of ways awardee applied these new ideas to practice in order to improve academic achievement and language development proficiency.

SSTESOL Conference Grants

Purpose: To provide financial support for teachers, paraprofessionals, parent liaison and/or graduate students currently involved in TESOL, TEFL, Bilingual Education, Applied Linguistics or a related field.

Who’s Eligible: Any of the above pre-service or in-service professionals
  • who have not been awarded a SSTESOL travel grant in the past two years, and
  • who will not be receiving support from their own institution to attend the Sunshine State TESOL Conference.


Award:(10 awards). Complimentary registration to SSTESOL conference.

Guidelines & Criteria:
  • You must be a member of Sunshine State TESOL. (If you are not a current member, you can get your membership here
  • Only complete applications submitted by deadline above will be considered. Complete applications consist of the application form and required essay that can be found below.
  • Recipients must participate in the sessions each day.
  • Recipients must provide a post-conference write-up of about 150 – 200 words regarding their conference experience and how concepts and ideas learned from the conference can enhance his/her practice and improve ELs’ academic achievement and language proficiency of majority of his/her students. This document must be provided no later than two weeks post-conference and should include summaries of sessions attended, new ideas learned from the conference, and/or personal reflections on the SSTESOL conference experience. SSTESOL Research Grants:

Purpose: To support graduate studies in the field of TESOL, Bilingual Education, or related fields.

Who’s Eligible: All current Sunshine State TESOL members who are enrolled in a TESOL, TEFL, Linguistics, or a related graduate program at an accredited institution in the state of FL and who are currently completing a master’s or doctoral thesis or a substantial research paper relevant to the fields of ESL, EFL, Applied linguistics, or a related field.

Award: One award of $250.

Guidelines & Criteria: Applications are evaluated in terms of the following:
  • Reasons for pursuing graduate studies in the field,
  • Stage of program completion, and
  • Financial need.
Preference is given to students who are within one year of program completion.

  • An explanation of your reasons for pursuing graduate studies in ESL/EFL/applied linguistics or a related field;
  • An abstract of proposed research project (50-100 words);
  • Expected completion date;
  • A statement from your academic supervisor/advisor/dissertation chair/faculty member confirming that you will complete your program within one year;
  • A current curriculum vitae; and
  • A 50-word bio-data summary.
